A few months back Lifetime announced that it is producing a made-for-tv movie based on Britney Spears life. Around the time of the announcement, Spears pretty much said the movie is unauthorized and does not have her blessing. Lifetime being Lifetime didn’t give a damn and made the movie anyway and below is the trailer.
First, what is going on over at lifetime? Within the last decade, the direction of the network has shifted drastically. I remember when I was younger in the late 90’s and early 00’s when my mother would watch TONS of Lifetime and the programming consisted of anything that had to do with murder mystery or crime. I would cuddle up with my mom and be scared shitless. Now, Lifetime is on the verge of taking the crown from VH1 as being the go-to channel for trashy reality tv shows. I guess that’s just a sign of the times.
Secondly, wtf is up with all these unauthorized celebrity movies? I get it from a business standpoint, but…it’s so lowbrow. I know they did a Saved By The Bell movie. And after that Aaliyah movie they made (that Wendy Williams had a hand in…) I think Lifetime should be banned from making unauthorized movies because that was just abysmal.
After watching the trailer for this Britney Spears movie it looks like its going to be just as bad as the Aaliyah movie if not worse. Just knowing that neither Spears or her team had anything to do with the production of this movie makes me not want to watch it.
Britney Spears is a legend and I would be interested in seeing a movie about her life, but only if it’s produced by the right people. And lifetime ain’t it.
Will you be watching?
